Digital Learning, Examinations & Certificates Terms

info

This document describes how the SMS Naija platform actually works today. It is provided for transparency and is not a substitute for independent legal advice — if you need a legal opinion on how this applies to your school or your use of the platform, please consult a qualified lawyer.

This page sets out the terms specific to four connected parts of SMS Naija: exam-practice tools, digital learning (Vocational/Tech School and Virtual School), the ICT Club Creator API, and certificates. It supplements our Terms & Conditions.

1. Past Questions and Mock Examinations

Past Questions offers practice-mode question banks; Mock Examination mode simulates a timed exam experience, including UTME-style and WAEC-style formats and other configurable formats offered on the platform. These are simulations for practice purposes only. Results, scores, and timing from a mock or practice examination are not official examination outcomes and should not be represented as such unless a specific mode has been formally authorized by the relevant examination body. Question content is either created or licensed by SMS Naija or contributed by partner institutions; SMS Naija retains rights to the question-bank content and its organization, and takes copyright complaints about question content seriously (Section 4 below).

2. Digital learning — Vocational, Tech, and Virtual Schools

Vocational and Tech School institutions structure learning as programmes → courses → cohorts, with course materials shared as institution-provided links and formal assessments recorded by institution staff. Virtual School institutions structure learning either as programmes → weeks → lessons, where each lesson is a YouTube video linked by the institution, or — in Playlist Mode — as a single YouTube playlist covering the whole programme, with weekly quizzes (Manual mode) and server-tracked progress that unlocks the next week only once the current week's requirements are met.

  • YouTube and third-party content: lesson videos are embedded from YouTube links the institution provides. SMS Naija does not host this video content and is not responsible for its availability, removal, or changes made by YouTube or the uploading party. An institution connecting a YouTube video or playlist confirms it holds the appropriate rights or permission to use and share that content through the platform.
  • Quizzes and assessments: quizzes are graded from the correct answers configured by institution staff, with attempt limits and, where enabled, randomized question order. Vocational/Tech assessments are scored and recorded directly by institution staff. Neither is graded or verified by SMS Naija's own academic judgment — the institution is responsible for the correctness of what it configures.
  • Progress tracking and completion: lesson and week completion, and course/programme completion, are computed by the platform from actual recorded activity (lesson-complete signals, reaching the end of a Playlist Mode course, quiz attempts meeting pass requirements, or an institution's own recorded assessment) — never from self-reported or client-side-only claims of completion, except where a Playlist Mode course offers a manual "mark complete" action as a fallback for a viewer whose browser cannot report automatic playback completion.
  • Institution responsibility for content: the institution is responsible for the accuracy, legality, and appropriateness of all course materials links, video content, and quiz/assessment content it connects to the platform.

3. ICT Club Creator API

The ICT Club Creator API is a distribution and curation layer that lets a Virtual School ("Creator") bundle one or more existing, platform-eligible ICT Club courses into its own curriculum, priced and sold as a single package through that Virtual School's own portal directory page — never through the main ICT Club directory or homepage.

  • What a buyer is actually paying for. The underlying ICT Club course content — its videos, lessons, and structure — is never copied, rehosted, or claimed as the Creator's own work; it remains exactly the same content available through the standard ICT Club, delivered the same way. Buying a Creator's curriculum is what SMS Naija and the Creator represent it as: a curated, structured learning path across the bundled courses, plus the completion certificate described below — not a claim of authorship over, or exclusive access to, the underlying videos.
  • No duplication. A curriculum is a reference layer (which existing courses, in what order), not a copy — technically and in substance. This is the same principle that governs Virtual School lesson content generally (Section 2): SMS Naija does not host or own the referenced video content, and a Creator's listing of it does not change who owns it or how it is delivered.
  • Eligibility and pricing. Only ICT Club courses SMS Naija has explicitly flagged eligible for the Creator API may be bundled this way. The Creator sets its own price for the curriculum as a whole; SMS Naija earns a configurable commission on each sale, snapshotted onto that sale at the time it is charged — a later change to the rate never applies retroactively to a sale already made. A curriculum's section list (which courses are included) may only be edited before its first sale.
  • Completion and certificates. On completing every section of a purchased curriculum, the buyer is issued a certificate bearing that Virtual School's own name and branding — not "SMS Naija" — in addition to (not instead of) the standard SMS-Naija-branded certificate they earn for completing each underlying ICT Club course directly (Section 4).
  • Creator responsibility. A Creator is responsible for the accuracy of its own curriculum title, description, and pricing, and may not misrepresent the bundled courses' contents or imply an affiliation with, or endorsement by, the original course's makers beyond what SMS Naija itself provides. SMS Naija may suspend a specific curriculum offering that breaches these Terms; existing buyers keep the access and any certificate they already earned.

4. Content removal and copyright complaints

If you believe content linked or uploaded through SMS Naija (a YouTube video, a course material, a past-question set, or other content) infringes your copyright or other rights, contact us at info@smsnaija.com with details sufficient to identify the content and your claim. We will review and, where appropriate, remove or disable access to the content and notify the institution or Creator that connected it.

5. Certificates

SMS Naija generates certificates for genuine completion recorded on the platform: ICT Club course completion, ICT Club Creator API curriculum completion (school-branded — see Section 3), Vocational/Tech School programme completion (issued when institution staff mark an enrollment complete), and Virtual School programme completion (issued automatically once every week's requirements, or a Playlist Mode course, are satisfied). Tertiary institutions additionally issue QR-verifiable Student ID cards through the same verification mechanism described below.

  • Each certificate and Student ID card has a unique verification code and a public verification page showing only non-sensitive display information (holder name, institution or Creator, certificate/ID number, and issue date).
  • An institution's or Creator's logo and branding may appear on certificates it issues, at its own configuration.
  • SMS Naija generating or making a certificate publicly verifiable does not independently guarantee the academic legitimacy of the issuing institution, Creator, or the underlying achievement, unless SMS Naija has explicitly and separately verified that institution or programme (see our Directory & Institution Terms, Section 5, on what "verified" means on this platform).
  • SMS Naija may revoke or invalidate a certificate where it was issued based on fraudulent records, where the issuing institution's or Creator's account is terminated for fraud, or where legally required to do so.

6. Intellectual property in this domain

SMS Naija's examination system, question-bank structure, course-delivery system, ICT Club Creator API, and certificate-generation system are SMS Naija's own software and IP. Institution- or Creator-provided content (course materials, quiz questions, curriculum titles/descriptions, logos) remains that party's property; by connecting it to the platform, the party grants SMS Naija only the license needed to display and operate that content as part of the service. A Creator's curriculum listing grants it no ownership over the underlying ICT Club course content it references (Section 3). Student-generated content (quiz attempts, submitted answers) is used solely to compute progress, scores, and certificate eligibility.

7. Platform limitations

SMS Naija is not responsible for: YouTube's availability, playback quality, or changes to linked video content; the academic accuracy of institution-configured quiz answers or assessments; a Creator's curriculum title, description, or pricing decisions; or internet/service interruptions affecting access to digital-learning content. See our Terms & Conditions, Section 13, for the platform's general responsibilities and limitations.

8. Changes to this page

We may update these terms as Past Questions, digital learning, the ICT Club Creator API, and certificate features evolve; the "Last updated" date above reflects the latest revision.
